Courses Available

We offer Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Thai in a standard Thai-as-a foreign language course. In addition, special Thai courses may be announced alongside the standard courses. Please note that some of the courses may not be available at particular term. The availability of the classes is subjected to the number of students signing up for the course. To facilitate good learning, we will keep the class size to 6 – 12 students to 1 teacher.

Below are the brief outlines of courses.

Basic 1
24 hours

Thai script of monosyllable words: Consonant and Vowel Combination

Unit 1

Introduction of self and others: describing a person’s origin, languages and nationality, profession, relation and physical attributes

Grammar Features:

Pronouns
Simple Sentence Construction (Four type of sentences: Indicative, Negative, Closed Interrogative, Open Interrogative)
Adjectives

Unit 2

Asking where one lives and telling location and direction of place and building, how to go about and means of transportation

Grammar Features:

Prepositions; Giving Instructions; verbs relating to taking transportation

Basic 2
24 hours

More complex feature of Thai scripts

Tone markers and tone rules; Live & Dead Syllables

Unit 3

Shopping and Food: Asking for price and quantity; making special requests and remarks; colours and tastes; clothing articles; food; fruits; grocers

Grammar Features:

Classifier Units; Making polite requests

Unit 4

Telling Time and asking about weather

Grammar Features:

Prepositions and conjunctions related to time; More about adverbs (where and when and how frequent)

Elementary 2
30 hours
Revision of some of topics, as well as additional topics, with more sophisticated vocabulary and expression introduced. Students will be expected to read without any Romanized Thai by now.
Intermediate 1
30 hours
More speaking, reading and writing practice, as well as more complex grammar and structure. All lessons will be purely conducted in Thai.
Intermediate 2
30 hours
More speaking, reading and writing practice, as well as more complex grammar and structure. All lessons will be purely conducted in Thai.
Advanced
30 hours
Discussion on general topics. Reading Thai from authentic texts, such as newspapers articles, and also be introduced to some famous Thai classics.
